I wanted to start something new on my blog where I share all about some trends and how to try them so this week, I’m going to share all about basket planters!
Baskets make for perfect planters which is why I thought it would be a great way to kick off the try the trend series.

If you have followed me for some time, it’s no surprise that I love plants! I have lots all of our home and love them all. Plants are unique and add lots of warmth and coziness to a space. Planters are just as fun as plants can be. Finding the perfect planter is part of the fun, I think!
A planter is the finishing touch to a plant. Any vessel can be used as a planter and you can get really creative with planters.
Baskets make great planters! Since they’re all different sizes, shapes, colors, textures, etc. they add a lot of interest to a space.
Baskets are perfect for covering up the grow pots that plants come in. I like to leave most of my plants right in the grow pot from the nursery so using a baskets as a planter is an easy way to disguise that grow pot.
I love that baskets can be used for all different uses. It’s easy to relocate a basket for another use if the plant outgrows the basket.
Since many baskets don’t have a hole at the bottom for drainage, I will put a plastic drip pan or plate underneath the plant to catch excess water.
When considering a basket for a planter, you want to think about the plant that will go into the basket. If the plant trails down, you will want a lower height on the basket than a plant that grows vertically. You also want the basket to be proportionate to the plant meaning you don’t want the basket to be too small with a really large plant and vice versa.
TRY THE TREND WITH BASKET PLANTERS
I have a couple basket planters in my home right now. I have one in our kitchen for my new plant which is a Ficus Alli. I LOVE IT! The basket is nice and wide and balances out the round and wide top of the tree.
I love the black and brown color combo of the basket. It’s got some handles on it too, which is a nice added detail.
In our living room, I have a belly basket for the planter with my pothos. I have had this set up for a long time now and I love it. It’s low enough that the pothos can easily drape over it as it grows down.
What do you think of this trend? Would you or do you use any baskets for planters in your home?
