This past weekend, my Mother in Law made tons of Christmas cookies together. We made these yummy meatball spice cookies and I had to share the recipe with you!
They are SO good and I look forward to them every Christmas! They are a traditional Italian cookie that John Paul’s grandmother used to make. His grandmother then passed the recipe down to his Mom and now she makes them each year! This recipe is even more special because it was his Grandmother’s Mom’s recipe so it has been passed down many generations at this point!
I was sharing about them on my IG stories and I had so many messages asking if there was actual meat in them and the answer is NO, HAHA! They just look like meatballs when they are done, hence the meatball name.
INGREDIENTS:
FOR THE COOKIE:
3 3/4 cup all purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp all spice
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tbsp baking soda
1/2 cup canola oil
1 cup milk
1/2 cup chopped walnuts—chopped finely
1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
FOR THE ICING:
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla
RECIPE:
Preheat the oven to 350
Combine all the cookie ingredients in a large bowl and mix well
If the dough is very dry and not coming together, add in about a tbsp of milk
Form 1” balls and place onto cookie sheet
Bake for 8-12 mins and allow to cool completely
Combine all the icing ingredients
Drizzle icing over cooled cookies
ENJOY!
These are filled with SO much flavor! If you have never had them, you have to make these! They are one of my favorite cookie. They do freeze really well so you can make them ahead of time and pop them in the freezer until you need them!
