To paint a geometric color block wall, follow these steps:
Gather your supplies: You will need painter's tape, a measuring tape, a pencil, a level, a variety of paint colors, paintbrushes or rollers, and a drop cloth to protect your floor.
Prepare the wall: Make sure the wall is clean and smooth. Fill in any holes or cracks and let the filler dry completely. Sand the wall if necessary and wipe off any dust.
Plan your design: Use the measuring tape, pencil, and level to mark out the design on the wall. You can create shapes like squares, rectangles, triangles, or any other geometric shapes you desire.
I did triangles for Dominic’s room so I just eyeballed them
Apply painter's tape: Once you have your design marked out, use painter's tape to outline the shapes on the wall. Press down firmly on the edges of the tape to prevent paint from bleeding underneath.
If you’re doing triangles at the corner of the walls, make sure the ends meet really well so that paint doesn’t bleed through.
Paint the shapes: Start by painting one color in each shape, making sure to stay within the lines of the painter's tape. Apply 2 coats for full coverage. Allow the paint to dry completely before removing the tape.
Touch up: If needed, touch up any edges or lines with a small brush to make the shapes clean and crisp.
Repeat: If your design includes multiple colors, repeat the painting process for each shape, allowing each color to dry before moving on to the next.
Remove the painter's tape: Once all the paint is dry, carefully peel off the painter's tape to reveal your geometric color block design.
Finish: Let the paint cure for the recommended time before hanging any artwork or decorations on the wall.
Remember, take your time and have fun with the process. Geometric color block walls can add a modern and dynamic touch to any room.
Here’s what I would do differently, if I were to do a design similar to this again! I would either paint the whole wall in the yellow color and then go in with the tape for the white & black parts or I would paint the yellow in the approximate area I wanted it & then go in with the tape for the white & black parts. This way, I wouldn’t have to tape twice. I had to tape for the yellow triangles, then had to go back over the triangles, leaving a little bit of yellow showing to make sure there were no gaps when painting the white & black parts.
Colors I used for the geometric color block walls:
white: Behr Weathered White
black: Behr Cracked Pepper
yellow: Clare Golden Hour
