How to Install Shutters

I have lots of good and easy tips for how to install shutters in your home!

My dad and John Paul installed the shutters this past weekend and they turned out so good!

HOW TO INSTALL SHUTTERS ON VINYL SIDING

We have vinyl siding on our house so installing these shutters was super easy. If you have vinyl siding and are looking for an easy DIY project to update the exterior of your home, you will want to keep reading!

I think the vinyl siding makes the installation a little simpler because you don’t need any special tools. You just need a drill and a hammer to get the job done.

Tools and Products:

shutters, ours are in the color clay
drill
hammer
screws or fasteners (came with the shutters)
painters tape

Directions:

Determine the size and quantity of shutters that you need (we used pretty much the same size shutters as the old ones which made this process super easy)
Remove the old shutter from the exterior of the home (only take one down at a time so that you know exactly which one you are working on)
Using painters tape to attach the old shutter to the new one, use the same holes that the old shutter had and drill holes into the new shutters
We had to drill the holes into the siding a little bigger since the old holes were a bit too small
We used the fasteners that came with the shutters rather than the screws and hammered each fastener into the shutter and the siding
Repeat the process until all shutters are hung

The most time consuming part of this project is moving the ladder around to get the right angle to hammer in the shutters. The actual process of hanging them was super simple. My dad and John Paul did this in an afternoon and we had 10 shutters to install.
