I added lots of fun and whimsical Christmas decor to the bookshelves in our family room.

This is actually the first year I have styled these bookshelves for Christmas. I just love how they turned out! They are a bit whimsical and colorful. These bookshelves are down in our family room which is also our playroom so the kids are around here a lot. I wanted the decor in the shelves to reflect the kids love for color and fun! See the cinnamon salt dough ornaments we made HERE and the reading nook HERE.
I’m so excited to be a part of this inspirational Christmas Home Tour, hosted by Leen! There are lots of beautiful ideas for Christmas linked at the end of my post for you to enjoy! If you are joining from Kristin, isn’t her porch stunning?!
BOOKSHELF DECOR
I kept with a simple theme for the bookshelves. A mix of vintage finds plus the pops of color from the bottle brush trees and cards that I’m using as art work.
I layered lots of books throughout the bookshelves. Most are vintage finds from antique stores, but I do have some fun interior books too. I also used a vintage coffee pitcher and a water pitcher.
I like anchoring the bottom of shelves with a bigger item so I used a vintage metal basket and a white woven basket. The woven basket hides lots of toy instructions and the remotes for the TV.
I also love the vintage seltzer bottle, architectural salvage, and milk glass pieces.
The rainbow bottle brush trees are a fun way to bring some color and texture to the bookshelves. I also used Christmas cards as artwork. it’s such an affordable way to create beautiful art. I love the colors of them as they tie in with the rest of the decor. The wooden houses were a fun DIY project that Giulietta and I did. I gave them a little update by adding some white paint to look like snow. I’ve had them for years and I was ready to give them a little change.
TV STAND DECOR
I don’t have a fireplace in our home so I like to use TV stands as makeshift mantles. For this TV stand, I draped some greenery along the top along with some red wooden beaded garland and this red and white yarn garland. I love how chunky it is and all the texture. To keep it all secure, I used command hooks.
I used another wooden house and a bottle brush tree on one side. The opposite side, I put these wooden white trees which I got from Target a long time ago.
I decided to put our stockings down here this year. Usually I put them upstairs in our living room as we open gifts there, but I thought it would be nice to have them down here since I decorated these bookshelves this year. They also strategically cover some of the toys that aren’t as aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
TV ARTWORK
We don’t have a frame TV, however, I like to find art on YouTube to use on our TV as a screensaver. I found this vintage inspired Santa artwork and I thought it was so cute and perfect for a kids space. When my kiddos saw it, they loved it!
I like doing this for the TV so it’s not such a big eye sore. We don’t leave it on all the time, but for styling purposes, I think it looks nice.
Lastly, for some ‘decor’ on the coffee table, I spread out some of our Christmas books. Makes for fun decor and easy to grab and read. I like the colorful addition to play off the bookshelf decor too! See the rest of our favorite Christmas books, HERE. I’m so glad I decided to decorate our bookshelves this year for Christmas! I will definitely be doing this moving forward!
