A House Update
I am long overdue to give you an update on our house and what’s been going on.
If you follow me on IG, you may have noticed I have been doing lots of projects around the house.
A HOUSE UPDATE
I wanted to finally write down all of our updates on here because there’s kind of a lot to share!
Read my last house update, here, to see why we initially sold our house to my parents back in December of 2021. We had so many good intentions and plans to find a new house, but sometimes the best laid plans don’t work out. Cue, this past summer!
So let’s rewind a bit. We sold the house to my parents in December of 2021 which was also around the same time I found out I was pregnant with Serafina. It really didn’t matter because we never thought we would be in this house forever anyways, regardless if we had a 3rd child or not. This was a motivating factor in the type of house we would now want since we would be adding on to our family.
We didn’t start looking for houses right away as the plan was to stay in this house for a bit and save up for a bigger down payment since the market was so insane. My parents got a rental and were content to be there until we found our new home.
We figured we would find one within a year or so, but the market had other plans! We started looking around the spring of 2022. We noticed lots of houses coming up in our preferred town and budget so we decided to get out there and really start looking. Things were wild! We put in so many offers. I can’t even remember the amount at this point, but it was a lot!
We were getting beat out by all cash offers or offers that were almost $100,000 over asking and these houses already needed work. It was tiring and defeating, but we kept trying. Serafina was born in July of 2022 and we still kept looking. We looked all throughout the fall and into the winter. Our realtor was hopeful that spring of 2023 things would be different. She was hoping that inventory would be higher and the overbidding would be lessened. We kept putting in offers and kept losing houses.
By the summer, we had kind of said let’s regroup and see what we should do. My parents had to make decisions on their lease which would need to resigned by the end of August.
We ultimately decided to buy back the house from my parents. At first we we didn’t really want to do this, as we were really looking forward to a new home, but we kind of grew to love the idea. We didn’t have to pack up and move and we had a lot of projects we could do around this house. It also is the perfect location, in such a good neighborhood.
We closed on everything in August and my parents bought a condo. They were able to find one through John Paul’s aunt who had an in law getting ready to sell their condo. It was the perfect sequence of events and the timing worked out so well with us buying back the house and their lease being up at the end of August.
My parents closed on the condo a couple weeks ago and it is the perfect spot for them! It’s closeby to us and has everything they need in a home! I will have to give you a tour soon! They have already made it really cute and cozy.
So that’s why you’ve been seeing me doing lots of projects around the house because we decided to make the best of the situation and do things that we had wanted to do to the house before we even had this plan with my parents. It honestly worked out for the best! We may still eventually sell our house as I don’t think it will be big enough for our family as the kids get older, but for now, we are happy and so are my parents!
The market is just really difficult right now and with interest rates being so high, this made the most sense. We’re glad to be settled and not having to scope out houses every day.
We will see what the future holds!
