5 Things to Decorate Shelves With
Decorating shelves is one of my favorite things to do in our home. I realized I gravitate towards these 5 things to decorate shelves with.
When decorating shelves, I like to use these things to make my shelves look and feel complete.

Plants: As you know, I am a big plant lover! I love using them throughout our whole home, but displaying them on shelves is my favorite. They add so much life and color to shelves, whether it’s a bookcase, a floating shelf, or open shelving. They take up a lot of space and I love when they trail down the shelves to give them more movement.
2. Art: I love displaying artwork on shelves. Art can bring in a lot of color and feeling. I love leaning it on the back of a shelf and propping things in front of it. It’s easy to swap out art for the different seasons to give shelves a whole new look too. Art is a great way to add some personality to shelves.

3. Trays: I love using trays on shelves because they add dimension. You can use them for display purposes but also to serve things on them. I love the added layer they add to shelves when stacking other objects on top of them. Trays are a great way to corral a bunch of smaller items to make them appear larger and take up more space. Trays can also be leaned against the back of a shelf for a fun twist on artwork.

4. Vessels/Vases: Vessles, vases, and baskets are perfect fillers on a shelf. I love all the different textures, colors, and lines they add to shelves. To me, these feel like the details on the shelf. They are what add your personal touches. I love using empty vessels and vases or filling them with real flowers or dried flowers. These are the fun pieces that really take your shelves to the next level.

5. Books: I love using books throughout my decor. They are not only beautiful, but functional. I like to display my favorite books to easily grab them when I want to read or browse. Coffee table style books are my favorite for decorating with as they tend to have beautiful covers that look great on shelves. Cookbooks are a fun way to decorate kitchen shelves and make for easy grabbing when you need to look up a recipe. You can stack the books and use as a tray or lean on the shelf as decor.
These are just some of my favorite ways to style a shelf. Things I tend to gravitate towards when decorating shelves in my home. I hope this gives you a little inspiration when going to decorate shelves in your home too!
